|b This study investigates the factors behind demand for modem delivery services in rural areas in Shurge- Alnil locality in Khartoum state. A households’ survey was conducted using the two- stages cluster sampling method for gathering data. About 308 women who had given birth during the year preceding the survey were interviewed through a structured questionnaire. The study examined both the characteristics of decision makers and the attributes of delivery services providers as perceived by the respondents in order to provide the policy makers with evidence based data. The main findings suggest that the majority of the respondents seek antenatal care; however, they prefer home delivery services. The study confirmed that a statistically significant association between demand for (choice of) delivery services and price, education, the number of live children and the number of children less than five is existed. Thus the study recommended provision of free delivery services with skilled personnel in rural areas and also to empower women socially and economically to enable them take their own decisions. The study also call for future studies using advanced statistical analyses to measure price and elasticities to enhance the existing knowledge that will help the decision makers to take evidence based decisions on allocation, organization and financing health institutions.
