|b In Sudan, pastoral nomads are facing challenges of rainfed mechanized farming expansion and competitive land use interfering with their nomadic lives. Pastoral nomad’s communities in Blue Nile State have been subjected to expansion of rainfed mechanized farming since the 1970s.The overall objective is to identify, analyze the impacts of rainfed mechanized farming expansion on pastoral nomads during last four decades (1970 - 2013). The paper hypothesizes that, pastoral nomads system is undergoing a continuous process of negative changes and impacts due of rainfed mechanized farming expansion during last four decades. Primary and secondary sources were used, both qualitative and quantitative. As a result, pastoral nomads faced several negative impacts due to expansion of rainfed mechanized farming include: blocked mobility routes, lost of grazing lands, blocked access to watering points, over grazing, increased disputes and tensions, reduction in herd size, lost of forests products, reduction in social exchange and relationships. The paper end with some recommendations including rehabilitation of pastoral nomads areas, integrating the pastoral nomads communities into the socioeconomic milieu of the country, demarcation of the livestock routes, pastoral nomads communities should be settled permanently.
