This study attempts to evaluate the quality of three selected English translations of As-Sayyab's poem “The River and Death.” It is concerned with detecting how well these translations connected with the underlying political core of As-Sayyab’s poem. Considering As-Sayyab’s personal background, the context of the poem and some pertinent insights of those who have written on this poem, the research will attempt to assess how well the selected English translations encompassed the details of the semantic content and the political theme of the poem. Above all, it will assess — comparatively or contrastively — the options, the difficulties, the constraints and the misconceptions, which might have concealed or overshadowed the political point of view in "The River and Death.” In short, the study will try to demonstrate how well the English translations captured the mood and fundamental essence As-Sayyab intended in “The River and Death.”
