نبدأ الدراسة بمقدمة تاريخية عن التعليم الأزهري في مصر والمرتبط بإنشاء الجامع الأزهر، وبداية إنشاء الكليات في ثلاثينات القرن الماضي، والتطوير الذي حدث عام 1961 وإدخال العلوم النظرية والتطبيقية في جامعة الأزهر إلي جانب العلوم الدينية. وتضم الدراسة النمو العددي للكليات والطلاب والطالبات، والانتشار الجغرافي لكليات الجامعة على مستوي المحافظات المصرية وبعض مدنها وقراءها، وتوزيع الطلاب والطالبات حسب نوع الدراسة وبين محافظات الإقامة والدراسة عام 2002/2003، وحركة الطلاب والطالبات بين المحافظات الإقامة والدراسة، ثم تطور أعضاء هيئة التدريس في الجامعة وتوزيعهم الجغرافي ونصيب أعضاء هيئة التدريس في العام الجامعي 2002/2003.
The paper approaches the geography of services in relation to Al-Azhar University Education with an introductory historical background to Al-Azhar education in Egypt, which is quite related to the establishment of the Al-Azhar Mosque, the early founding of its schools (faculties) in the thirties of the last century, and the 1961 development which introduced theoretical and applied sciences to Al-Azhar’s religious curriculum. The paper studies the growth in the number of Al- Azhar faculties and students (male and female). In addition, it traces the geographical extension of the Al-Azhar's faculties in Egyptian governorates and some towns and villages. The paper also explores Students Distribution Policies (2002 - 2003), taking into consideration the type of education, the governorates either in which students took lodging, or where they pursued their studies, and the students’ movement between the former and the latter. The paper finally examines the development of Al-Azhar's university staff members, their geographical distribution, and their quota in the university academic rosters of 2002 and 2003.
