The economic recession suffered by the Egyptian economy. has its negative effects on performance indicators. The growth rate of GOP has declined by about 4.7% in 2008/2009, and the employment opportunities have decreased to 600 thousand jobs only, and the unemployment rates rise to around 9.4%. which impact negatively on the achievement of goals of economic development in accordance with the Sixth Five-Year Plan (2007/2008-2009/20 10). Where was the target of increasing the rate of growth of GOP by about 8% annually and provide about 750 thousand jobs There are alternatives to the decision-maker to recover from the recession and return to the natural course of the economy again. One of these alternatives is to identify the leading sectors that are capable of achieving economic development objectives and put policies for developing them to be the engine driving the growth of other sectors of the economy The study was an attempt to identify the leading sectors in the Egyptian economy, according to two criteria, technical standards, and preferences of decision-maker. Within this framework has been the use of input ¬output tables for the year 2006/2007. It was clear from the study that the sectors of food industries, and textile sectors are the most capable of achieving some of the goals of decision-maker for increasing output and employment. Given the importance of the two sectors, we studied the structure and their relative importance compared to other manufacturing industries. It was clear from the results of the high importance in terms of the share of the number of establishments, employment, investment and total production. However. examining the exploitation of production capacity available, it became clear the suffering of excess capacity compared to Other manufacturing sectors The aim of studying the structure of the food industry and the textile sectors is to provide a picture about the two sectors to the policy maker, which will help him to formulate an appropriate strategy that assists in their development.
