|b In order to join the EU, a candidate country must meet social, economic, and political standards defined by the Copenhagen Criteria. I hypothesize that a country experiencing higher economic and political performance will be more likely to be accepted into the European Union - (EU). When a country's economic performance is stable, strong evidence supports citizens' civil liberties; the probability of being a part of EU increase. I use three different models based on data collected in year 2003( ) to show the probabilities for each calculated model. The empirical results demonstrate that Turkey is the weakest contender for the EU membership, and Croatia has the highest probability of the countries examined of becoming a member of the EU.
