المستخلص: تتناول هذه الدراسة الجهود الصوتية لدى طائفة من المفكرين أو الفلاسفة المسلمين الذين شاع صيتهم وانتشر ذكرهم في القرن الرابع الهجري أو العاشر الميلادي، وهم جماعة إخوان الصفا الذين تناولوا في منشوراتهم أو رسائلهم مجموعة من الأفكار الفلسفية والفكرية واللغوية جنباً إلى جنب، وستتناول هذه الدراسة عرضاً تأصيليّ اً لطبيعة البحث الصوتي الأكوستي عند العرب، ثم تعرج إلى جهود جماعة إخوان الصفا في المجال الصوتي العربي؛ حيث قدموا تعريفاً منطقياً للصوت اللغوي، ثم شرعوا في تقسيم أنواعه بحسب الدلالة والكيفية والكمية، وحددوا مخارجه وطرق إنتاجه، وأتبعوه بتحليل رائع لطرق تحليله من كافة المستويات النوعية والكيفية والكمية، وألقوا الضوء على جوانبه الدلالة وطرق تمييزه وإدراكه. توصلت الدراسة إلى نتائج مهمة، ومنها: أنّ إخوان الصفا قد قدموا توصيفا أكوستياً للصوت العربي يكاد يتفق مع ما توصلت إليه أجهزة التحليل الصوتي الحديث، وكان مضمون دراستهم للصوت اللغوي مضمونا لغويا من كافة جوانبه، ودرسوا الصوت من كافة جوانبه؛ فقدموا تعريفاً له منطقيا ثم شرعوا في تقسيم أنواعه بحسب الدلالة والكيفية والكمية، وحدّ دوا مخارجه وطرق إنتاجه، وأتبعوه بتحليل رائع لطرق تحليله من كافة المستويات النوعية والكيفية والكمية، وألقوا الضوء على جوانبه الدلالة وطرق تمييزه وإدراكه.

This study deals with the phonological efforts of a group of thinkers or Muslim philosophers whose reputation and mentioning was widespread in the fourth century of hijrah or the tenth century A.D who were called the Ikhwan al- Safa. They wrote in their treaties categories of ideas that relate to philosophy, intellectual and linguistic side by side. This study will present an effort to establish the rooting to the nature of phonological study among the Arabs and subsequently will relate to the efforts of this group in the field of Arabic phonology through their logical definition of the Arabic sounds, their categorization according to its meaning, ways of articulation and quantity, description of the places of articulation and their means of production. They subsequently and excellently did an analysis according to all the levels of quality, quantity and manner. They also paid their attention to the aspects of meaning and the means to differentiate between the sounds and the method to acquire them. The study concluded, among others: The Ikhwan al-Safa group had managed to describe the Arabic acoustic sounds in a manner that is extremely similar to findings of the modern phonological devices. Their subject matter is comprehensive that covers all aspects of Arabic sounds. They logically defined the sounds and categorized them according to the meaning, manner and quantity. They determined their places of articulation and manners of production and subsequently followed up with excellent analysis from the various levels of quality, type and quantity, the aspects of meaning and their distinctiveness and acquisition.
