520 | |b Salahadin al-Ayubi: A Model for Tolerance and Peaceful Co-existence Salahadin gained prominence, to a large extent, due to his supreme manners, specially his unwavering commitment to tolerance which was an important component of his Islamic character. These ideals were instrumental in building a society in which Muslims and non-Muslims lived in harmony. The society of Salahadin was a diverse one in which Muslims, Jews, and Christians lived together. It was also a multi-ethnic one. The principles which Salahadin nourished serve as sound foundations to organize the relations between state and individuals. Our paper consists of four sections, preface, and important findings. The first section addresses some shining features from Salahadin's character, the unique aspects of his life. We will also cover his religious convictions which shaped his personality. The second section deals with the internal policies of Salahadin. We focus here on his policies vis-à-vis the people of the book, and his dealings with the local princes. While doing this we make reference to some historical events and examples. The third section addresses Salahadin's policies towards his opponents, and enemies, who were kings, princes, prisoners of war, and those who spoke ill of him. The fourth and final section sheds light on Salahadin's image in western literature and the impact of his personality on European consciousness. This was explained by reference to impressions and ideals of laymen in Europe .The important findings of the paper will be summed up in the end. | ||
