المستخلص: تناولت هذه الدراسة السوسيولوجية العلاقة بين استخدام الانترنت والعزلة الاجتماعية للطالبة الجامعية عن أفراد أسرتها وأقاربها والمحيطين بها. وقد طبقت الدراسة على عينة من الطالبات الجامعيات السعوديات قوامها 375 طالبة في التخصصات الإنسانية في جامعة الملك سعود. استخدمت الدراسة منهج المسح الاجتماعي بالعينة، وجمعت البيانات باستبيان مغلق صمم لهذا الغرض. وقد توصلت الدراسة إلى عدة نتائج منها: أنَّ لاستخدام الانترنت تأثير متوسط على العزلة الاجتماعية عن الأسرة والأقارب؛ ومع ذلك توافق المبحوثات على أنَّ الانترنت أصبح جزءً رئيسيًا من نمط حياتهن اليومي، وعدم قدرتهن على الاستغناء عنها وشعورهن بالضيق عند فقدانه.كما أنَّ غالبية العينة توافق على أنَّ لبعض خصائص الانترنت كالرغبة في التسلية والترفيه، وإمكانية التواصل الاجتماعي، وعرض ومشاركة الأفكار والاهتمامات وحرية التعبير والإطلاع دور في زيادة استخدام الانترنت، ومن ثمَّ وجود عزلة اجتماعية عن المحيطين. وانتهت الدراسة ببعض التوصيات والمقترحات المتعلقة بالدراسة.

This sociological study examined the relation between social isolation from family and kin relatives and the use of the internet among Saudi female university students. The study took place in King Saud University in Riyadh, whereas a sample of 375 female students majoring in humanities was drawn. Data was collected through a questionnaire designed for this purpose. Results of the study That the use of the Internet medium effect on the social isolation from family and relatives heavy use of the internet. However the respondents agree that the Internet has become a major part of the daily pattern of their lives, they can not do without it and feel upset at the loss of Internet connection. The majority of respondents agree that some of the characteristics of the Internet, such as leisure and entertainment, and the possibility of social networking, display and share ideas and hobbies and freedom of expression role in the increased use of the Internet and then having social isolation.
