|a Al-Jahidh is a remarkable master and a cunning teacher who took the craft from its primary sources and attained glory until he became a leader of a sect called (Al-Jahidhiya). He struggled to transfer his knowledge to a great number of scholars who studied under his hands to become knowledgeable in the doctrine inits fullest form. The book Al-Bayyan we Al-Tabyeenis the last of his books. It is regarded as a rhetoric treatise that is linked to the theology and its arts in which manifested in the doctrine of Al-Mu’tizella and Al-Jahidh was one of them. The researcher noted the circulated thinking of the treatise. He took it, thus, as a means of his study of the (The Intentionality of Discourse inAl-Bayyan we Al-Tabyeen by Al-Jahidh). The researcher opened his study with a Preface that tackles the fixation of the right title of the treatise and a biography of the author and the status of the rhetoric book among the books of rhetoric and literature. Chapter One tackles the main terms of the treatise; (discourse) and (intentionality). He tackled in the Arabic and the western cultures, old and new, with a study of the origin of the two terms and their development. Chapter Two studied communicative intentionality through the texts of the treatise divided into two inquiries: the first inquiry is about the linguistic communication. The study was through the strategies of discourse the types of which are clarified in the treatise. They were two types: the explicit strategy (direct); implicit strategy (indirect). The non-verbal communication was studied through the semiotic approach, because Al-Jahidh was interested in clarifying the meaning of the sign and the significance of cultural and social phenomena in the old Arabic life. The nature of the study imposed that Chapter Three tackles the theme of (Argument) where the researcher tackles the texts of the treatise, and discussed the features of the argument in a number of levels as a revelation of the theme of satisfying and prohibition in the treatise. The researcher ends the researcher with the Conclusion. A great number of old and modern resources were used for the purpose of conducting the research.
