This thesis deals with the development and study of influences governing the accuracy of a coordinate measuring machine. Vibration is an important factor in evaluating and determining the level of the accuracy for coordinate measuring machines (CMMs). The simulations were conducted to investigate and understand the behavior of the CMM. The investigation was conducted firstly, to determine the natural frequencies for the model while presenting the mode shape for the first five frequencies. In addition, further analysis was performed to indicate resonance frequencies under harmonic force, with a view to analyze the most critical mode for the probe system which could lead to fatigue failure. Further analysis involved exciting the machine by applying periodic force and displacement input in order to analyze the probe system response in three directions. Also, the same simulations were analyzed on the CMM by adding a damping system and installing four springs to view the behavior of the probe system.
