|a The development of computer technology provides various significant opportunities and one of them is finger detection.Thanks to it silent communication can be developed through detection of gestures used in sign language.The research is ought to provide an intuitive computerized application to assist people in learning sign language. The applicationis based on intuitive sensor developed by Microsoft called Kinect. It was developed for video games, but in our research it plays a role of an input device. With the help of it, the fingers are detected on the cluttered background. The project is implemented using Microsoft Visual Studio 2010. The applicationidentifies fingers, detects the gestures and recognizes their meanings simultaneously. The results of the process are then displayed on the screen. The advantage of Kinect is an infrared camera and so the common confusing factors, like lighting, skin colour, clothes, background and other foreign objects, have little impact on the outcome results.The high performance characteristics and the accuracy of the applicationmake it a universal component to be integrated for various purposes in our everyday life.
