This paper tackles the style of witticism in the work of "Al-Mahasin Wa AI-’ Ddad" (Amenities and Antonyms) of Al-Jahiz, revealing the accurate meanings of the two words (Witticism and Satire) and their other synonyms, in order to find a specific nomination encompassing the accurate description of Al-Jahiz style in this book. Many of the commentaries and the names given by the writers are discussed. As well, the jokes, anecdotes and amusing stories given by Al-Jahiz, in addition to those who imitated him, are all tackled and discussed, by way of explanation and analysis, as much as I could.l have also tackled the question of the attribution of the book: "Al-Mahasin Wa AI-’ Ddad" (= Amenities and Antonyms) to Al-Jahiz, discussing many of the opinions in this respect. Hence, I could reach many findings, the important of which are: The style of Al-Jahiz, at least in this book, is witty, amusing and humorous, but not satirical or ironical, as many writers like to call it. - The witticism or joke of Al-Jahiz is not always comic or funny, though it sometimes arouses contemplation or pondering and induces smiling. The quotations of many of both ancient and modern writers from this book, in addition to similar witticism we find in some of the authors, make us support the opinion that the book is really attributed to Al-Jahiz.
وقفت هذه الدراسة علي أسلوب الفكاهة في كتاب " المحاسن والأضداد" "للجاحظ"، وذلك بهدف التحديد الدقيق والموجز لمعاني الفكاهة والسخرية وما شاكلها من مسميات، ومن ثم الوصول إلي تسمية ذات وصف دقيق لأسلوب " الجاحظ"، وكذلك إثبات صحة نسبة كتاب المحاسن والأضاد" للجاحظ" من خلال أسلوبه الفكه، وأيضا تجديد الروح في نفائس النثر الأصيل، وحث الكتاب والباحثين علي النهل من معينه واستعرضت الدراسة في سياقها عددا من تعليقات الكتاب وتسمياتهم المتباينة لأسلوب " الجاحظ" كذلك وقفت علي ما أورده الجاحظ من طرف ونوادر في هذا الكتاب، ومن استقي من معينه بعده من الكتاب واتبعت هذه الدراسة المنهج التاريخي الوصفي التحليلي، ومن كل ذلك توصلت إلي نتائج، أهمها: أن أسلوب الجاحظ – علي الأقل في كتابه هذا – فكها وليس ساخراً إضافة إلي الفكاهة التي نجدها في الكتاب تجعلنا نؤيد الرأي القائل بصحة نسبته " للجاحظ" ومن أهم توصياتها: تريث الكتاب والباحثين قبل إطلاقهم لوصف (ساخر)، لما لهذا الوسم من معني دقيق بينه القرآن الكريم.
