المستخلص: Academic research, in general terms, and research in areas of architecture and its knowledge areas, specifically, is considered to represent one of the supporting tributaries in respect to accomplishing the comprehensive development projects within the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. That is because research is indispensable as it leads to the development of knowledge and then employing it to solve problems. From this perspective, the importance of the study stems from the presence of research subjects undertaken by the faculty staff members of the Architecture and Building sciences department, since the establishment of the department, whilst conversely there is the presence of a base in terms of development plans within the Kingdom, and this study will examine the relationship between the two.
This study aims to ascertain the research trends of the faculty members of the Architecture and Building Sciences department, in terms of quantity and quality. Thereafter, it seeks to determine the relationship between them and the goals of the development plans within the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, in addition to determining how much they have been influenced by them. The study also aims to establish connections between the future researches in Architecture, which will be presented at a later time by the faculty members, and to then link them to the relevant bodies connected to the development planning in the Kingdom.
The methodology of this study was designed in two consecutive stages. That is as the descriptive analytical methodological approach was used during the stage of studying the research trends, whilst the content analysis methodological approach was used during the stage of studying the relationship between the research trends and their relationship with the development goals of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. The results of the study were revealed in three stages. The first were the results of the study according to the research trends of the faculty staff members, followed by the study results of the study according to the relationship of the research trends and the development goals, and finally, the general results of the study and its recommendations.

يعتبر البحث العلمي بصفة عامة والبحث في مجالات العمارة وعلومها بصفة خاصة أحد الروافد المساندة في تحقيق مشروعات التنمية الشاملة في المملكة العربية السعودية ؛ إذ لا غنى عن البحث العلمي كونه يؤدي إلى تنمية المعرفة وتطويعها لحل المشكلات . من هذا المنطلق تنبع أهمية الدراسة بوجود مواضيع بحثية قام بها أعضاء هيئة التدريس بقسم العمارة وعلوم البناء منذ تأسيس القسم وبالمقابل وجود قاعدة من خطط التنمية في المملكة ستبحث هذه الدراسة العلاقة بينهما.
تهدف هذه الدراسة إلى معرفة الاتجاهات البحثية لأعضاء هيئة التدريس بقسم العمارة وعلوم البناء كما ونوعا، ومن ثم تعرف العلاقة بينها وبين أهداف خطط التنمية في المملكة العربية السعودية وتأثرها بها. كما تهدف إلى إيجاد روابط بين الأبحاث المستقبلية في العمارة ، التي سيتم تقديمها من أعضاء هيئة التدريس لاحقا، ومن ثم ربطها مع الجهات ذات العلاقة بالتخطيط التنموي في المملكة.
تم تصميم منهجية هذه الدراسة بمرحلتين متتاليتين ؛ إذ تم استخدام المنهج الوصفي التحليلي في مرحلة دراسة الاتجاهات البحثية واستخدام منهج تحليل المحتوى (Content Analysis) في مرحلة دراسة العلاقة بين الاتجاهات البحثية وعلاقتها بأهداف التنمية في المملكة العربية السعودية. ظهرت نتائج الدراسة على ثلاث مراحل ، أولها نتائج الدراسة بحسب الاتجاهات البحثية لأعضاء هيئة التدريس ، يليها نتائج الدراسة بحسب العلاقة بين الاتجاهات البحثية وأهداف التنمية ، وأخيرا النتائج العامة للدراسة وتوصياتها.
