يعد ميناء أبولونيا من اهم مواني قورينائية لارتباطه بعاصمة الإقليم قورينا، ولذلك نال النصيب الأكبر من الاهتمام العلمي للبعثات الأثرية منذ منتصف القرن الماضي، واستطاعت تلك المجهودات أن تكشف الكثير من التفاصيل الإنشائية والمعمارية للميناء من أرصفة وأحواض وأبراج ومخازن وأحواض صيد بل عثر حتى على بقايا سفينتين وقطع رخام وأواني فخارية وقطع عملة. ونظرا لنشر بعض الدراسات عن مرافئ الإقليم وخوفا من ضياع معالم هذا المرفأ إذا تم توسيع الميناء الحديث دون مراعاة الخرائط التي رسمت للموقع، رأينا أن نقوم بدراسة وصفية تحليلية للمعلومات التي أمدتنا بها البعثات الأجنبية المتعددة التي قامت بدراسات ميدانية في مدينة أبولونيا ومينائها. وتبين من خلال هذه الدراسة ضخامة هذا الميناء بالمقارنة مع عدد كبير من مواني حوض البحر المتوسط وتوكد القى الأثرية التي تم العثور عليها على حجم التبادل التجاري بين إقليم قورينائية والعالم القديم.
