كان الجدل الأساس الذي قام عليه البحث "ملامح من حياة اليهود في ليبيا خلال القرنين التاسع عشر والعشرين" يركز على محاولة تقديم صورة تاريخية موجزة، عن حياة اليهود الاجتماعية والثقافية والاقتصادية في ليبيا، وإظهار مواقفهم حيال الأحداث والتقلبات السريعة التي شهدتها البلاد. وبطبيعة الحال، قسم البحث إلى: مقدمة، وتمهيد، وست مباحث، وخاتمة، حاولنا من خلال التمهيد إعطاء لمحة تاريخية موجزة عن الوجود اليهودي في ليبيا، وسخرنا المبحث الأول عن حياتهم الاجتماعية، فتطرقنا لسمات ومميزات حيهم السكني (الحارة) ومؤسساتهم الاجتماعية، وأوضاعهم الصحية، وعاداتهم، وتقاليدهم، ولباسهم، وتعرضنا في المبحث الثاني لأوضاعهم الثقافية، مدارسهم على مختلف مستوياتها وأنماطها الدينية، والفنية، والحرفية، ومكتباتهم، وشعراءهم، وأدباهم، وأبرز صحفهم، ومطابعهم، وفرقهم الموسيقية، وأهم مسارحهم، وأنشطتهم الرياضية، والترفيهية، ونواديهم. في حين توقفا في المبحث الثالث عند أحوالهم الاقتصادية، وحرصنا على اظهار دورهم في تجارة القوافل لاسيما تجارة الرقيق المقيتة، وعملنا على بيان مدى استفادتهم منها ومن عوائدها وأرباحها، ثم ركزنا على أنماطهم التجارية والصناعية الأخرى مثل: تجارتهم في الملح وبيع الأقمشة والأحجار الكريمة، وصناعة الذهب والفضة، والحدادة، والحياكة، وسبك المعادن والعملة. واجتهدنا في تلمس موقفهم من الاحتلال الإيطالي لليبيا عام 1911، فتطرقنا لتعاونوهم معه من أجل مكاسبهم المادية، تم انتقلنا لمطالب مندوبهم في أروقة الأمم المتحدة عام 1949، بشأن استقلال ليبيا، والتي تمثلت في حماية مركزهم الاقتصادي، ومكانتهم الاجتماعية والدينية والثقافية. وخصصنا المبحث الأخير لأهم العوامل والملابسات التي ساهمت في خروجهم من ليبيا.
The basic discussion and debate upon which this research, features of the life of Jews in Libya during the nineteenth and twenty centuries, concentrate on the way of introducing a brief picture about the political, social, and cultural life of Jews in Libya and showing their positions towards the events and the quick turmoil's which the country just witnessed. According to that, this research has been divided into, introduction, preliminary and six searches along with a conclusion, we tried through this introduction to give a brief historical summary about the Jewish presence in Libya, and the first search has been devoted to their social life, and we examined the characteristics of there quarter called (alhara) along with their social institutions and their healthy situations, their customs, traditions and clothes. In the second search we have tackled their cultural situations, their school at all different levels and their religious types, their art, craftsmanship, library, poets, writers, and most prominent newspapers, and their printing and their musical bands, the most important theatres and sporting activities, leisure time and their clubs. While in the third we dealt with their economic situations we paid more heed their contribution in convoys trading especially slave trading, and we showed the range of profiting from these revenues, then we have focused on their industrial and commercial types like salt selling and clothes and precious stones, gold and silver industries, ironing, embroiling, melting metals and we have been trying hard to touch their position on the Italian occupation in Libya in 1911.we examined their cooperation with them for their own material benefits, after which we turned to the requests of their deputy in the united nations concerning the independence of Libya which assured the protection of their economic position and their cultural, religious and social place. We have devoted the last one to the most important element and factors which helped in their evacuation from Libya
