إن توظيف الأسطورة كان فتحاً للغة الشعر الحديث والمعاصر لمعانقة ألفاظ جديدة تنبع من ثقافة ذات بعد إنساني، وهو ما أسهم في إغناء الدلالة وتعدد المعاني والتأويلات، مما يؤكد غنى الأساطير وإمكاناتها في التجدد الدائم والتأقلم مع مختلف السياقات. ولقد استفاد الشعراء العرب الليبيين من الموروث الأسطوري القديم في خلق وتكوين الصورة الشعرية وجعل لغة هذا الشعر تعانق آفاقاً إنسانية أرحب، ولهذا فإن معانيها ودلالاتها حفلت بالقوة في التعبير، والأصالة في الأحاسيس. والشاعر الليبي وظف الأسطورة في نتاجه الأدبي، ليصوغ من خلالها هواجسه وتصوراته وأفكاره وأحلامه باعتبارها منبعاً رمزياً لا ينضب. إلا أن أغلب الشعراء الليبيين لم يعمدوا إلى استغلال أية أسطورة في شعرهم ليبنوا عليها القصيدة بناءً كلياً، وإنما الإكثار من الإشارات التي لا تتجاوز مضمون اللفظة التي يمكن أن تستخدم بديلاً عن الرمز الأسطوري. ولقد وجدت أسطورة سيزف صدى واسع عند أغلب الشعراء الليبيين، وذلك بما تحمله من معاني المعاناة والعذاب المتكرر.
