Bloom's influence theory analyses the relationship between the new poet and the great works of poetry which inspire him. Aspects of this relationship are psychological. It is associated with anxiety of the young poet of being a copy of the great poets he admires. To overcome this anxiety the young poet follows some techniques which change his reading to be misreading or misinterpretation. Bloom defines the anxiety of influence theory as misreading. This misreading requires studying or revising great works and finding a way for deviating from them. He suggests some techniques for this deviation which proves the new of the originality work of poetry. The relationship between the old and the new works is not peaceful. It is that of rivalry and strife with the works which the poet admires. It is an oedipal relationship in which the poet loves his inspirer or father and at the same time works hard to escape imitating him to assert his identity as a poet. The research is an analytical study of some of the works of Harold Bloom such as The Anxiety of Influence, A Map of Misreading, Agon and The Anatomy of Influence.
