Remada events (dated Feb 19th till May 25th, 1958), the details of which are little known, were a milestone and precursor in pushing out the French troops from the Tunisian territory. These events led to the Agreement of June 17, 1958 which imposed the evacuation of the French Forces stationing in the Tunisian territoty except from the Bizerte Base. It is in this context that this paper, based on a varied oral and written testimonies, purports to revisit and reconsider the historical process of these events, their impact on the national and international plans, and their role in the acceleration of the final departure of French armed forces from the Tunisian territory Les événements de Rémada (19 février-25 mai 1958), dont certains détails sont restés longtemps peu connus, présentent une étape primordiale dans le processus d’évacuation des troupes françaises du territoire tunisien. Ces événements ont abouti à l'accord du 17 juin 1958, qui a mis fin à la présence des forces françaises sur le territoire tunisien à l'exception de celles qui se trouvaient à la base de Bizerte. De ce fait, cet article, se basant sur un corpus de sources écrites et orales, tentera de décortiquer le processus de déroulement de ces événements, leurs retombées sur le plan national et international, et leur rôle dans l'accélération du départ définitif des forces armées françaises du territoire tunisien. |
