المستخلص: An expository style of writing is more formal and straightforward than the style of many other types of writing. It requires that the writer be aware of the different elements that lead to well-written composition. The writer should care about the choice of appropriate vocabulary, strong diction, sentence variety in length and type, level of formality, clarity, paragraph development, inclusion of topic sentence and conclusion. This study aims to identify the stylistics challenges Palestinian EFL majors face in their expository writing. Sixty expository essays written by the study subjects were collected for this purpose. The essays were analyzed and stylistic problems in them were identified and then categorized. Results revealed that the most frequent deviations from academic style of writing are weak diction followed by lack of sentence variety in terms of structure, type and length then bad translation. Other less frequent troubles also existed in the students' writing such as the inclusion of contracted forms, unclear or even vague meaning, improper conclusion and inappropriate topic sentence in paragraph. Some of the reasons behind these troubles were explored. On the bases of the findings, the study provides pedagogical implications for EFL writing instructors accordingly. Therefore, writing instructors should pay much attention to the issue of academic writing style when their students practice expository writing.
