Authentic ahadith has been narrated from the Prophet (may Allah exalt his mention and send peace to him) that there will appear a man from the Qahtan tribe that will steer people with his stick. The scholars differed amongst themselves when they tried to specify who this man is. It was said that he is a man with an unknown name. Others said that his name is al-Jahjah, or Shu'ayb bin Salih, or Dhus-Suwayqatayn al-Habashi. The most correct opinion is that his name is unknown but his descent is known, which is that he's from the Qahtan tribe. The scholars also differed what's meant that he will steer people with his stick and the time when he will appear. Mu'awiyah used to deny that a person from the Qahtan tribe will be a ruler and that the caliphate and the imamate will ever leave the Quraysh tribe! The scholars explained this issue in a sufficient way! It appeared people that claims that they were al-Qahtani or that their followers ascribed it to them in different epochs. These claims can't be accepted nor confirmed and the evidences shows that it's false. But there will be a person from the Qahtan tribe in the end of time that will steer people with his stick, just as it has been narrated in authentic ahadith and athar and Allah knows best.
