There is no specific definition for violence against women, however there is a consensus that violence directed to women is a result of the differences of power levels between men and women. There are many factors that also cause violence to be a continuous phenomenon where the gap in power between them is deepen since early childhood. Violence against women has different forms but this study is limited only on physical, sexual and psychological violence. The kind of violence that women are exposed to varies according to the different stages of their life. The most common violence against women in Egypt is the physical one committed by husbands. On average, at least one among every three women is exposed to physical or sexual or psychological violence at least for once in her life. The age gap causes the husband to commit violence against his wife when he is younger than her or when he is older that her by more than ten years. Violence against women is not limited to a specific region or an educational level but it cascades to all regions and across all educational levels. However, there is a clear difference between husbands who completed their secondary education or higher in addition to those who haven't ever gone to schools where the level of violence decreases as the educational level of the husband increases and this also applies to the education level of the wife. Husband work has no impact on the violence committed by him on his wife. Drug abuse leads to violence against the wife. The economic side represented in the fortune indicator is important where the group that belongs to the lowest level in the fortune indicator experience more violence than those who are less fortune.
