المستخلص: Linguistic explanations of language use show that 'misunderstandings due to different uses of indirectness are commonplace among members of what appears to (but may not necessarily) be the same culture' (Tannen, 1982, 1990, 2009). This study attempted a critical reading of a political genre through a discourse analysis of Women's Goodwill Ambassador to the United Nation Emma Watson's speech. The study showed how Emma tried, to bridge the gap between the two genders. The aim of the study was to show how political language connects with the social aspect through being the primary domain of ideology and as a means to struggle for power. This study examined the differences in the speaking patterns (Maltz & Borker 1982 and Gumperz 1982) that Emma used to address men and women. Throughout the study, the question that I sought to answer and which was whether misunderstandings across genders are idiosyncratic or universal has been thoroughly resolved.
