Cote d'Ivoire has experienced, Thursday, Nov. 25, 2010, the first adversarial debate in its history between the two finalists in the presidential election. This discursive confrontation is therefore a new element in the political landscape of Cote d'Ivoire. In addition, it is important to note that this debate takes place in a context overheated with sporadic clashes between the supporters of Laurent Gbagbo, the outgoing President, supported by the FPI (Ivorian Popular Front) and a coalition of parties united in the LMP (The Presidential Majority) and those of Alassane Ouattara, his challenger supported by another political coalition called RHDP (Rassemblement des Houphouetistes for Democracy and Peace) including the main opposition parties in the country are the PDCI (Democratic Party Cote d'Ivoire) and RDR (Rally of Republicans) Alassane Ouattara. The purpose of this paper is to study the argumentative resources implemented by the speakers in confrontational discourse.
