|b . Bee venom acupuncture (BVA), a novel type of acupuncture therapy in which purified bee venom is injected into the specific acupuncture point on the diseased part of the body, is used primarily for relieving pain and other musculoskeletal symptoms. In the present study, overviews of the Bee venom acupuncture have been conducted to investigate other such studies. This review systematically assessed the social research and clinical evidence for and against Bee venom acupuncture as a treatment for drug addiction. The existing scientific rationale and possible mechanisms for the effectiveness of Bee venom acupuncture on drug addiction were also evaluated. We used computerized literature searches in English and Arabic and examined texts written before these computerized databases existed. We also used search terms of treatment and neurobiology for drug abuse and dependence. Chinse acupuncture showed evidence for relevant neurobiological mechanisms in the treatment of drug addiction. Although positive findings regarding the use of acupuncture to treat drug dependence have been reported by many clinical studies, the data on Bee venom acupuncture do not allow us to make conclusions that Bee venom acupuncture was an effective treatment for drug addiction, given that very few studies reviewed here were hampered by small numbers of Animals, insufficient reporting of randomization and allocation concealment methods, and strength of the inference. However, considering the potential of Bee venom acupuncture demonstrated in the included studies, further social research and clinical studies with long follow-up are requested to prove the advantages of bee venom therapy in treating Meth addiction.
