This paper discusses the necessary and general safety, health and environment features, precautions and controls that healthcare facilities (HCF) should apply in order to ensure a safe, hazard controlled organizations for healthcare-aid givers as we as receivers. The objective is to examine the various occupational hazards encountered by healthcare practitioners and demonstrate recommended solutions and procedures as to control and hence reduce or eliminate, if possible, the hazardous situations and risky tasks involved in medical and healthcare entities. Bloodborne pathogens and hazardous substances form the major hazard sources to the personnel working for any HCF. Methods of controlling bloodborne pathogens transmission, other potentially infectious materials and hazardous substances are studied hereafter. These incorporate decontamination, waste disposal, laundry handling and provision of appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) as major safety procedures in any HCF.
