Jordan’s general election of 2016 constituted a turning point of its kind in the country. For the first time since 1993, it was organized according to the Open Relative List law approved by the former parliament. It used to adopt the one- vote system in different forms. Furthermore, it witnessed the return of the Islamic Action Front, the main opposition party, which had boycotted the polling for 9 years. Among the main results was the IAF’s winning of 15 under the National Reform Alliance. In addition, across the kingdom, 5 women managed to occupy a seat through direct competition. However, the overall turnout was lower than in the previous voting. Finally, the event showed obvious weakness of the performance of most parties, making it hard for political parties to find leverage in this assembly, except in few cases. Moreover, a parliamentary government is not likely to realize.
