A careful reading of the texts of the Ibn Khaldun on Sufism through his famous work called ‘Muqaddimah’, or his treatise titled ‘Shifaussail’ is enough to make you feel the presence of Sufism in Ibn Khaldun’s thoughts. Despite the difference of approach in both books, the mystic influence on Ibn Khaldun exists. It can not only explained as tolerance, objectivity and scientific spirit enjoyed by Ibn Khaldun; the qualities undoubtedly he had. But we go further and affirm that the mystical presence is evident in his thought. It also confirms the presence of Sufis in his thinking especially al-Ghazali, the reference to his books and citing his quotes occur repeatedly in Ibn Khaldun’s books |
