المستخلص: سلط البحث الضوء على موقف حزب الاتحاد الديمقراطي المسيحي من مسألة إعادة توحيد المانيا، وحاول ان يتلمس السياسة التي تبناها الحزب في التعامل مع هذ المسألة الحساسة جداً لكل اللمان في شطري المانيا الشرقي ام الغربي، وقد استعرضنا اهم المناقشات والمداولات التي دارت في داخل الحزب خاصة أجنحة الحزب الرئيسية: الأصوليين والاصلاحيين، الذين تقاطعت وجهات نظرهم حول الطريقة او الأسلوب الذي يتم فيه إعادة التوحيد. هذا التناقض في وجهات النظر بلغ اعلى مراحله في نهاية الثمانينات مع اشتداد ازمة الاتحاد السوفيتي وتفككه، لتتهيأ فرصة لم تكن بالحسبان امام الالمان الغربيين لإعادة توحيد بلدهم، ولعب هلموت كول والوسطاء الاخرين في الحزب دوراً كبيراً في تقريب وجهات النظر وتوحيد آراء الفرقاء داخل الحزب من خلال تبني حلول وسطية ساهمت في بلورة سياسية ناجحة للحزب اثمرت عن نجاح عملية التوحيد دون التضحية بثوابت جناحي الحزب. لم يكن انهيار جمهورية المانيا الشرقية وتوحيد المانيا عام 1990 ممكناً دون التحولات السياسية الجذرية في الاتحاد السوفيتي السابق والتي اخذت بوادرها تظهر منذ منتصف الثمانينات، فمن اجل انقاذ الإمبراطورية السوفيتية من التفتت والانهيار، شرع ميخائيل غورباتشوف الرئيس السوفيتي وزعيم الحزب الشيوعي الحاكم آنذاك بأجراء إصلاحات سياسية شاملة في البلاد، ومن اهم التغيرات الايدولوجية في هذه المرحلة هو تخلي الاتحاد السوفيتي موقع السيد الآمر والناهي في حلف وارسو واتجاهه نحو إقامة علاقات طبية وتعاون اقتصادي اقوى مع أعداء الامس في حلف شمال الأطلسي. لا شك أن الحظ قد ابتسم لهلموت كول وحزبه في عصر غورباتشوف والتغيرات الأساسية التي قدمها من غير قصد، فكان لابد للمسألة الألمانية ان تتحول، وبطبيعة الحال، كان للنهج حزب الاتحاد الديمقراطي المسيحي في الالتزام للمسألة القومية الأثر الأكبر في تحقيق حلم الالمان بإعادة لم شملهم والذي سرعان ما تحقق بعد (9) تشرين الثاني عام 1989.
