الصناعات المجتمعية هي الصناعات التي يحتاج اليها المجتمع محليا" والتي تمكنه من أداء وظائفه وإشباع حاجاته اليومية. وهي نوع من الصناعات الصغيرة وأحيانا" المتوسطة، وهي ذات ارتباط وثيق بينها وبين عدد السكان ومستواهم الحضاري، إذ كلما أزداد عدد السكان وارتفع مستواهم الحضاري زادت حاجة المجتمع إلى المنتجات الصناعية المتنوعة والى الخدمات الصناعية. وقد توزعت هذه الصناعات على مدن ومراكز نواحي قضاء الزبير التابع لمحافظة البصرة بمجموع (20) صناعه مجتمعيه صنفت ضمن خمسة قطاعات صناعيه هم قطاع الصناعات الغذائية والمشروبات، وقطاع صناعة المنسوجات والألبسة والجلود، وقطاع الصناعات الخشبية والأثاث المصنوع منه، وقطاع الصناعات الكيمياوية والبتروكيمياوية، وقطاع صناعة المنتجات المعدنية وصناعة المكائن والأجهزة الكهربائية وتصليح السيارات. بمجموع (٨٥٥) ورشة" صناعية وبلغ مجموع المشتغلين فيها (٢٩٩٩) عاملا"، وقد نالت مدينة الزبير على النسبة الكبرى من هذه الصناعات بعدد (٨٥٥) ورشة" وبعدد عمال (٢٣٩٦) عاملا"، ثم تلتها مدينة خور الزبير وبقية نواحي القضاء الأخرى. كما تعترض هذه الصناعات مجموعه من المشاكل منها ما يخص الطاقة الكهربائية والأخرى تذبذب أسعار السلع المنتجة بين فترة وأخرى. تناولت الدراسة خصائص ومعايير الصناعات المجتمعية والتي تم فيها إيضاح الخصائص التي تمتاز بها هذه الصناعات، فضلا" عن مجموعه من المعايير التي تعتمد في تعريف الصناعات الصغيرة، المعايير العالمية وكذلك المعيار العراقي. كما تم دراسة خصائص التوزيع الجغرافي للصناعات المجتمعية في قضاء الزبير من خلاله تم توضيح توزيع الصناعات المجتمعية وحسب القطاعات الصناعية على مدن ونواحي القضاء. فضلا" عن استخدام درجة التنوع الصناعي في قضاء الزبير وهي مدى قدرة قضاء الزبير على جذب الصناعات بكل أنواعها.
