المستخلص: يرتبط نجاح البرامج الأكاديمية في المرحلة الجامعية بمدى موائمتها مع متطلبات العصر وسوق العمل. في ضوء هذا المفهوم، يعمل قسم دراسات المعلومات بجامعة السلطان قابوس على التحديث المستمر لخططه الدراسية وبرامجه الآكاديمية التي يطرحها على مختلف المستويات. من هذا المنطلق هدفت هذه الدراسة التعرف إلى أي مدى قد قام قسم دراسات المعلومات بجامعة السلطان قابوس بتطوير خططه الدراسية، ومستوى مواكبته للمعايير الدولية في تحقيق ذلك وبما يمكن الآشارة إليه أن القسم يواكب بالفعل تطلعات السلطنة للولوج في مجتمع المعرفة.
تطرقت الدراسة إلى ثلاثة معايير في هذا الشأن الصادرة من جمعية المكتبات المتخصصة SLA وجمعية الكليات والمكتبات البحثية ACRL والاتحاد الدولي لجمعيات المكتبات IFLA
توصلت الدراسة إلى أن الكفايات المهنية الأساسية تحظى باهتمام واسع من قبل القسم وذلك لتضمنها كافة المهارات والمعارف التي يحتاجها المتخصص عند التحاقه بالمهنة.كما بينت الدراسة أن هناك اهتماماً كبيراً بالكفايات التقنية التي تجعل من المتخصص أكثر تفاعلاً مع البيئة الآلكترونية والاتجاهات الحديثة في إتاحة خدمات المعلومات. كما أبرزت الدراسة التوجهات المستقبلية للقسم التي تركز على تدريس تقنيات الويب 2.0، والشبكات الاجتماعية وذلك لضمان تأهيل كوادر مؤهلة بشكل أفضل مستقبلاً للإفادة من هذه التقنيات في مجال تسهيل الوصول لخدمات المعلومات، والتفاعل مع المستفيد، والتشارك في المعرفة.

The success of academic programs at the university level is related to the extent to which they are compatible with the requirements of the times and the labor market. In light of this concept, the Department of Information Studies at the Sultan Qaboos University is continuously updating its academic plans and academic programs at various levels. From this point, the study aims at identifying the extent to which the Department of Information Studies at the University of Sultan Qaboos has developed its study plans and the level of its compliance with international standards in achieving this, and it can be noted that the department is in fact keeping pace with the aspirations of the Sultanate to enter the knowledge society.
The study addressed three criteria in this regard issued by the Special Library Association (SLA), Research libraries ACRL and the International Federation of Library Associations (IFLA)
The study concluded that the basic competencies of the profession are receiving wide attention from the department to include all the skills and the knowledge a specialist needs at the time of joining the profession. The study also showed that there is a great interest in the technical competencies that make the specialist more interactive with the electronic environment and the modern trends in providing the information services. The study also highlighted the future direction of the department, which focuses on the teaching of Web 2.0 techniques and social networks, to ensure that qualified cadres are better equipped in the future to benefit from these technologies in field of facilitating access to information services, interaction with the user and sharing knowledge.
