This study tackles the relationship between foreign direct investment and employment in Egypt during the period 1981/1982- 2004/2005. First section discusses the conceptual and theoretical framework concerning the impact of foreign direct investment on employment. Section two analyzes the status of foreign direct investment and the related employment in Egypt. Section three focuses on econometric analysis to test the relationship between foreign direct investment and employment. The study concludes with some conclusions and policy recommendations of which, the most important findings are: Foreign direct investment doesn’t affect employment, but domestic private investment and public investment have effects on employment. Therefore, Policies should focus on maximizing benefits and enhancing employment- investment link. Linkages with multinational corporations should be intensified, especially those working in labor intensive industries. Integration in international systems of production and value chain should be enhanced as well. On the other hand, active labor market policy (ALMPs) should be adopted in the short and medium term.
