|b This research paper aims to explore the importance and the impact of freight transport services for the competitiveness of Egypt exports. The paper starts with identifying the direct relationship between transport services and exports throught the supply chain of commodities from the farm or factory (in the export country) to the store of the importer (in the import country). Then the paper investigates the weaknesses and bottlenecks in the current transport system in Egypt and its implications for exports. The weaknesses and bottlenecks are classified into 3 categories. The first category concerns transport network, the second category concerns transport fleet while the third category concerns transport terminals (sea ports, airports, and land crossing points). In each category, the examination is carried out for the weaknesses and bottlenecks that affect the flow of export commodities for each mode of transport (road, rail, river, air and maritime transport). The paper ends with developing some measures and recommendations that help in the direction of improving freight transport services in Egypt so that export commodities can be delivered on the right time, right place, in good condition and with the appropriate cost.
