Tonsillectomy is one of the commonest surgeries in paediatric age group and paracetamol suppositories given to alleviate the postoperative pain. However, delayed absorption under evaluate the role of paracetamol suppositories in treatment of post tonsillectomy pain. This study designed to compare post operative pain score in children who receive paracetamol intraoperatively and another group who did not. Patient and Methods: Prospective study done on 30 children comes for elective tonsillectomy aged 6-12 years ASA I and II. Randomly divided in to two group. Group (A): (n = 15) 6 males and 9 females receive paracetamol suppositories 30 mg /kg after induction of anaesthesia. Group (B): (n= 15) 4 males and 11 females did not receive paracetamol suppositories. In all of the patients standard anaesthesia was conducted using thiopentone 5 mg / kg. fentanyl 1mcg/ kg and suxamethonium 1 mg /kg to facilitate intubation. Then maintenance by halothane, nitrous oxide and oxygen. The post operative hour using the visual analogue scale (VAS) .Results: The frequency of good condition (less pain) post operatively is more in group (A) than in group (B). The mean of the visual analogue scale in group (A) is lower than that in group (B). The statistical analysis by the T test show significant difference (P 0.05). Conclusion: Paracetamol suppositories given after induction of anaesthesia to children scheduled for elective tonsillectomies are valuable option in post tonsillectomy pain management. |
