من الذائع المشهور أن المتنبي اشتد من حوله الخصومة، وثار من أجله الجدل، ودارت في ميادين أشعاره المعارك لذا لن تنتهي الدراسات التي تتناول شعر الرجل بل نراها تتكاثر يوما بعد يوم كل يتناوله من زاوية محدده، اللغوي من ناحية لغته، والبلاغي عن الصور الفنية، والناقد ليبث فيه أفكاره ورؤاه و ... إلخ هذا وقد نال التعريض كقيمة فنية حظا موفورا من اهتمام الأقدمين بمختلف تخصصاتهم في علوم العربية والقرآن الكريم وكان حظ الدراسات التي تناولت شعر المتنبي بالنقد والفحص حظا عظيما منذ القرن الرابع الهجري وحتي اليوم ولكن مع تلك الكثرة التي تزاحمت على أدبه ونقده وأصالته وتقليده فما يزال شعر الرجل يتسع لدراسات أخرى. جاءت محاور الدراسة على النحو التالى. -المتنبي، حياته، خصائص شعره. - مفهوم التعريض عند علماء اللغة والبلاغة -التعريض في شعر المتنبي.
