المستخلص: هذه الورقة البحثية هي محاولة لدراسة وليم سارويان "الوحيد"، لنري ما خفي في مقدرته لاستخدام ما نسميه: القفز في البحر والسباحة حالا، وهذا النوع من الكتابة ينتج المتعة الممزوجة بالألم في صورة الحنين إلى الماضي، فهذا يعد جديدا في كتابات سارويان، والتي تركز على المنحرف جنسيا، وهي تختلف عن الأسلوب التقليدي.
إن جميع قصصه، المرتبطة بنصر الحلم الأمريكي المتفائل، ناظرة بعين الأرميني-الأمريكي ذات الخلفية الغربية. والتي ستوضح بصورة أفضل في الرسم التوضيحي.
إن الانحرافات الرومانسية والوجودية، والتي ترفض كل واحدة الأخرى، تميز سارويان، الذي يمثل الأرمن الذين يعتبرون خارجين عن القانون في أرضهم. إن البؤس والألم والوحشة في داخله لا ترينا المميزات الوجودية في كتاباته فحسب، بل تثير فينا الخيال والشعور التفاؤل، والطابع الرومانسي في معظم كتابالته.
وعلى كل حال، فإن روح سارويان المرحة والرافضة للانضمام للحركة، والتي ستوضح بمزايا خلفيتها الوجودية.
إن سارويان لم يقيد نفسه بنماذج وقوانين الحركة الصارمة، بل بالمزايا الوجودية والعناصر الرومانسة التي نسجت في عمله الإبداعي. إن السخافة التي أشار إليها لي قصصه هي نوع مختلف عن غيره؛ فهي مزيج من تلك الصفات المتضادة التي يجب التأكيد عليها على أنها بعد جديد.

This paper is an attempt to examine William Saroyan, the ‘loner’, to see what is hidden in his ability to use what he calls the “jump-in-the-river-and-start-to-swim-immediately” type of writing that produces a bittersweet nostalgic picture. A new dimension to Saroyan’s writings, hitherto unexplored, will be the focus deviating from the conventional way. All his stories, optimistically associated with the glory of an American dream, viewed with an eye on his Armenian-American and Western background, will illustrate him in a better graphic perspective.
The romantic and the existential streaks that repel each other characterize Saroyan who represents Armenians who were outsiders in their own land. The ensuing anguish, loneliness and absurdity in him couldn’t but show the existential characteristics in his writings as well as the exalting, optimistic and romantic stamp in most of his fictional works. However, it is Saroyan’s exhilarating and alienating spirit in his stories rather than his affiliation to the movement that is going to be examined with the existential traits as its backdrop.
He does not confine himself to the rigid patterns and rules of the movements, but the romantic elements and existential traits are woven into the fabric of his creative works. The absurdity that he points out in his stories is a different type altogether. It is a blending of these two diametrically opposite qualities that are to be stressed as a new dimension.
