A data Warehouse (DW) is designed to store huge amount of data over a long period of time in different forms to be used for various purposes including decision support systems and data mining. The DW maintenance depends on the nature of the requests or queries sent by the user to the DW. The issue of updating a DW in terms of time storage requirements has received a lot of attention in recent research. Various techniques have been proposed in order to reduce the time and space needed to update a DW from the various resources. Data updates are provided to a DW in parallel from multiple resources. Such updates include large amount of data that should be extracted and inserted into the DW for future usage of up-date information. This study focuses mainly on reducing the volume of data that should be sent from the source to the DW. The proposed reduction will rely on sending only the modified fields from the source to the DW. Sending from the sources only the last up-date modified fields instead of sending the whole updated records will reduce the time and space needed to update a DW. |
