المستخلص: Allah created man and made him successor 0n this earth and ordered man to worship Him. and guided him to the best maimers and virtues. Allah directed mankind to behave in a modest way. as modesty is the basis of all morals and the source of all virtues. Modesty also wills an individual to do good and abstain from evil. The Messenger pbuli was shyer than the virgin in her seclusion. There is 110 doubt that women are more likely to commit to this value, and follow the example of the prophets and the righteous, and walk in their footsteps. Modesty is a very valuable virtue in a woman as it beautifies her. but it has sadly become nearly extinct in modem times. It is therefore necessary to enforce this value in our children and encourage youngsters to adorn themselves with this beautiful characteristic as it promotes good and prevents evil. It is important, however, to mention that modesty is not restricted to women, as men must also behave, act. and dress modestly. It was my aim in this research to define modesty and differentiate between it and the concept of shame. I also made clear the virtues of modesty, its effects, the types thereof, and why it has become lacking in many people. I also encouraged the reader to beautify himself/herself with modesty, and follow the footstep of women who were known for this characteristic. To end this summary, this research has reached the following conclusions: 1. Modesty is a valuable virtue as encourages the individual to do good and abstain from evil. It is not limited to women and extends to men also. 2. Modesty is linked to a person’s emaan. If one is lifted the other is also removed. It is necessary to encourage modesty in the home environment as well as through schools, to promote its virtues, and to enhance modesty in our girls through the way the dress and behave.

لقد خلق الله الإنسان، وجعله خليفة في هذه الأرض يعمرها وفق شرع الله، وأمره بعبادته، وحثه على مكارم الأخلاق وفضائلها، ومن القيم التي حث عليها قيمة الحياء، وهي أساس مكارم الأخلاق، ومنبع كل فضيلة؛ لأنه خلق رفيع يبعث على فعل الحسن، وترك القبيح من الأقوال والأفعال، وقد كان صلى الله عليه وسلم أشد حياء من العذراء في خدرها. ولا شك أن المرأة أجدر بالتزام هذه القيمة، والاتصاف بهذا الخلق الرفيع، والاقتداء بالأنبياء والصالحين، والسير على نهجهم. إن قيمة الحياء كادت تندثر في زماننا الحاضر عند كثير من النساء، وهي قيمة خلقية ثمينة، تزين بها المرأة نفسها، وكان لابد من تعزيزها، والحث عليها، واستخراج فضائلها، وتربية الأبناء من الصغر على هذه القيمة، وزرعها في نفوسهم، حتى تثمر الفضائل، وتتلاشى الرذائل، كما أنها ليست خاصة بالنساء، بل يشترك الرجل مع المرأة في التخلق بقيمة الحياء. وقد هدفت من خلال هذا البحث تبيان معرفة معنى الحياء، والفرق بينه وبين الخجل، والكشف عن فضائل الحياء، وآثاره، وأسباب ضعفه، وبيان أنواع الحياء، والحث على الالتزام بها، والاقتداء بنماذج من النساء اللاتي عرفن بالحياء. ومن أهم النتائج التي توصلت إليها من خلال هذا البحث: 1- إن الحياء قيمة خلقية، تحث الإنسان على فعل الخيرات، وترك المنكرات، وتهديه لأحسن الأخلاق، ولا تقتصر صفة الحياء على النساء، وإنما أيضاً الرجال. 2- إن الحياء مقترن الإيمان، فإذا رفع أحدهما رفع الآخر. 3- لابد من تعزيز الحياء في البيت والمدرسة، والعمل على نشر فضائله، وتنميته في نفوس الفتيات من خلال الحشمة والستر.
