اتجه تدريس اللغة الإنجليزية في السنين الأخيرة اتجاها مختلفا عما كان عليه في السابق، وأصبحت الحاجة ملحة لتحديد أغراض دراسة اللغة وبناء مقرر اللغة على هذا الأساس. لقد أصبح تصميم مقرر اللغة الإنجليزية لأغراض محددة (ES) يتطلب من المصمم أن يأخذ في اعتباره عدة مسائل. إحدى أهم هذه المسائل هي ضرورة تحديد حاجة الطلاب للغة. ولبلوغ هذا الهدف، فإنه يتعين عليه أن يجمع البيانات المطلوبة من الطلاب والمدرسين ومن لهم علاقة بهذا الأمر، وذلك باستخدام وسائل جمع البيانات مثل الاستبيانات وإجراء المقابلات. وبعد حصوله على البيانات المطلوبة، فانه يقوم بتحليلها وتقويمها لتحديد حاجة الطلاب للغة بطريقة دقيقة. هذه الورقة تتناول هذه المسائل بالدراسة والتحليل، وذلك بغية تنوير الأبحاث ومصممي البرامج التعليمية لطلاب اللغة الإنجليزية لأغراض خاصة في هذا الشأن.
Designing a course in English for specific purposes (ESP) requires the designer to take a number of issues into his consideration. One of the most important of these issues is to consider the students’ language needs. Reaching such needs requires the designer to collect enough and precise information that leads to this objective. This information is gathered through a number of instruments the most common of which are questionnaires and interviews with students and teachers as well as with any relevant people. Via these instruments the predetermined data is obtained and the course designer, then, has to analyse and assess the information. This paper is shedding some light on the methods used to collect such data, the analysis and the assessment of these data to reach the students’ language needs. The paper also presents some pragmatic considerations that should be taken in account.
