520 |b The resistance to cathodic disbondment is crucial in applications where organic coatings are placed on steel surface such as pipe supplied with cathodic protection buried in corrosive environments such as soil or in underwater applications. Disbondment of coating occurs when coatings in a cathodic protection system interact either chemically or physically, ultimately causing corrosion beneath the coat. In CP systems, current passing through the metal can free hydrogen atoms, causing coating disbondment. This current passes only through metal coating a fault, and amount of the current flow depends on the size of the coating fault. If the size of the fault increases, the current forces the coating away from the metal, resulting in a voltage drop at the interface, causing cathodic disbondment. This paper was studying the behaviour of both Epoxy paints, treated with Bentonite compared with free Epoxy paints as corrosion protection coatings. This work investigated the mechanism of area of delamination of a sample coated with Epoxy paints compared with mixed with Bentonite 3% & 5% on steel substrate. Corrosion tests were carried out by the immersing the samples in sea water. In conclusion, the samples, which were coated by Epoxy and treated with 3% Bentonite, were found able to reduce cathodic delamination compared with those samples 5% clay treated and untreated epoxy samples coatings.
