The dispersion relations associated with a symmetric 4-ply laminate discussed in this paper are derived in respect of the most general isotropic strain energy function, see [8]. Various aspects of the propagation of small amplitude waves in an unstressed layered structures are addressed in this paper. A feature of wave propagation in layered media is that of dispersion, in which the speed of propagation is dependent on the wave number. This relation is investigated numerically then used to obtain asymptotic expansions for the phase speed. The symmetry of the laminate allows the problem to be separated into symmetric and antisymmetric solutions. |
