It is known that dc motors, and switching systems in general, show a wide-ranging of nonlinear behaviours including bifurcation, and chaos when they work outside their design specifications. These nonlinear patterns force the motor to change its normal periodic state to a chaotic behaviour; a circumstances that must be avoided. In this paper, the nonlinear dynamics of a dc motor driven by a chopper circuit are controlled based on the concept of the monodromy matrix (i.e. the state transition matrix for one switching cycle, including the state transition matrices during the switching instants).
