المستخلص: تتناول هذه الدراسة ظاهرة الأمراض في إفريقية خلال القرنين 2-5 هـ/8-11 م، بهدف الكشف عن طبيعة الأمراض ودورها في صياغة البنيات السلوكية والذهنية الفردية والجماعية التي تشكل بنية التاريخ العميقة؛ حيث إن قضايا الصحة والمرض تعد إفرازا طبيعيا لحياة الأشخاص في محيط معين وبيئة معينة وظروف معيشية خاصة، وفقا لما تتوارثه الجماعات من منظومة القيم الدينية والاجتماعية، التي صاحبت قناعات الناس ورؤيتهم للصحة والمرض بوصفها ظاهرة إنسانية وواقعا اجتماعيا معيشا. لذا تكمن أهمية الدراسة في محاولة الفهم العميق لظاهرة المرض في مختلف أبعادها، بوصفها منتجا اجتماعيا لا يختلف عن باقي الوقائع الاجتماعية الأخرى.
ومن خلال المادة المستقاة من المصادر الأصلية، أمكن دراسة الموضوع من خلال عدة محاور شملت أسباب المرض وأصوله، وأنواع الأمراض، وموقف مجتمع إفريقية من المرض والمرضى، وطرق المواجهة والعلاج، والآثار الناجمة عن الأمراض اجتماعيا واقتصاديا وثقافيا وذهنيا وسياسيا.

This study examines the phenomenon of diseases in Africa during the two centuries 2-5 AH/8 -11 AD, with the aim of revealing the nature of diseases and their role in shaping the individual and collective behavioural structures that form the deep structure of history. Health and disease issues are a natural release of people's lives in a certain domain and environment and special living conditions, according to the heritage of the groups from the system of religious and social values, which accompanied people's convictions and vision of health and disease as a human phenomenon and a living social reality. Therefore, the importance of the study lies in trying to understand in depth the phenomenon of the disease in its various dimensions, as a social product that is no different from other social realities.
Through the material from the original sources, it was possible to study the subject from several axes, including the causes and origins of the disease, the types of diseases, the attitude of an African society towards disease and patients, the ways of coping and treatment, and the social, economic, cultural, intellectual and political effects of diseases.
