المستخلص: The results obtained for the examined physiochemical characteristics of soil in the studied area prove that dusts from the iron and still factory has had a significant impact on the soil. The affected soil properties are mainly the total soluble salts and total Fe content showing higher values than those in unpolluted soil samples. Organic matter ranged between 0.01 to 0.03 g. Soil water content ranged from 0.57 to 1.52. %. Total soluble salts ranged from 200 to 8533 ppm. The soil pH showed no appreciable differences within localities and ranged from 7.7 to 8.2. The all tested metals recorded high amount in soil samples exposed to pollution, particularly near row material of the factory. Different responses were found in each site. The soil samples, which exposed to the factory effluent, were the poorest in fungal population and diversity compared to control. Five fungal genera (Aspergillus, Penicillium, Rizopus and Fusarium), of which Fusarium may consider one of the resistance fungi to industrial dusts due to its large colonies numbers isolated from polluted area.
