المستخلص: Silica is very important in our life, its use spans from building materials to manufacturing of solar cells, glass industry and optic fibers ….etc. Silica sand is an industrial term for sand, with very high quartz content. The sandstone of Bu Reshada quarry, Abu Shaybah Formation (Upper Triassic to Lower Jurassic) which is about 2 Km Northwest of Gharyan city, NW Libya, is studied for the quality of silica to be used for manufacturing of glassware. Christie,A.M.(1955). The objective of this study is to locate the best quality sand in the area suitable for glass manufacturing; after using different beneficiation methods to decrease the iron percentage is (less than 0.023%) in the raw material after beneficiation. A comparison between the average grain size of the Abu Shaybah sand (125 - 800 μm) with the grain size of Sibelco (well known sand seller company, Belgium), shows a good correlation in both the cumulative curves and histograms. The Sand from the Abu Resheda quarry represents a good raw material for manufacturing of different glassware. Just whashing permits achievement of better quality sand that conform well to the international standards.
