Centrifugal pump design and performance evaluation is a highly developed field, with much known about pump theory and design procedures. As a result a wide variety of pump types have been constructed and used in many different industrial applications and other technical sectors. As many pumps are available with unlimited dimensions and operating speeds, the selection of the suitable pump which works at high efficiency at the required operating range for certain application is still a hard task as many pumps are available with unlimited dimensions and operating speeds. Thus, the performance characteristics for a given pump geometry and operating speed are very important to know. Such characteristics are usually given in the form of plots of pump head (hp), pump efficiency () versus the pump capacity (Q). These plots highlight in turn the conditions under which system changes occur, the acceptability of the new operating point on the pump curve, and the manner in which it can be moved. Accordingly, this paper investigates these curves and highlights the main centrifugal pump performance parameters and their effect on pumping conditions.
