المستخلص: A reliability analysis of the Iowa State university Teaching Research reactor (UTR-10) has been carried out by means of the fault tree method. Fault tree analysis (FTA) is a formalized deductive analysis technique that provides a systematic approach to investigate the possible modes of occurrences of a defined system state or undesired event. The probability of radiation release from UTR-10 is evaluated. The radiation release was taken to be the top event of the fault tree for this analysis. A detailed fault tree was constructed and the minimal cut sets were derived and then the unavailability of the top event was computed by running the PREP and KITF codes. It was computed that the unavailability of radiation release from the UTR-10 is 2.2xl0-6 and it was found that the reliability of the reactor protection system is the most important factor in this analysis.
