المستخلص: سعت المشكلة الدراسة لتتبع بدايات تأسيس وحدة الجماعة الأوروبية، وما رافقها من متاعب وتوترات بريطانية ما قبل وبعد العضوية في الاتحاد الأوروبي، كانت بمثابة مقدمات ودوافع بريطانية داخلية أفضت بالنتيجة إلي إتخاذ قرار استفتاء البقاء أو الخروج، وقد نحت الدراسة إلي افتراضات عدة تمحورت بشكل أساسي حول الروح الإمبراطورية والسيادة والهوية وأولوية المصالح القومية التي انبثقت مباشرة من البيئة البريطانية الداخلية،
ساندها عوامل موضوعية تمثلت بقضايا الهجرة واللاجئين وارتباطاتها الأمنية والاقتصادية، كمقدمات ودوافع أنضجت استفتاء الخروج البريطاني من عضوية الاتحاد في نهاية المطاف، وحتي تتمكن الدراسة من تقصي مشكلتها وإثبات فرضياتها، فقد تبنت المنهج الوصفي لتتبع المقدمات، ومنهج الدولة القومية ومدرسة الواقعية السياسية لتحليل سلوك الدولة الخارجي المنبثق من البيئة الداخلية لصانع القرار البريطاني تجاه الاتحاد الأوروبي،
بينما في مقابل ذلك اعتمدت الدراسة علي رؤية منهج المؤسسية الليبرالية والاعتماد المتبادل لتحليل الاستجابات الأوروبية للمطالب البريطانية، ما مكن الدراسة لأن تخلص إلي أن متغيرات القومية والهوية والاستقلالية كانت الحاضنة لحالة الشك وعدم الثقة التي رافقت العلاقة البريطانية- الأوروبية،
ولتتفاعل فيما بعد مع متغيرات الهجرة وافواج المهاجرين والتهديد الأمنية والاقتصادية، فيستثمرها الشعبويون البريطانيون، من جميع ألوان الطيف السياسي، لصالح إحراز نتيجة الاستفتاء التي أنضجها مجمل الدوافع الكامنة في البيئة الداخلية البريطانية.

The problem of the study sought to track the beginnings of the establishment of the European Community unity, and the accompanying British troubles and tensions before and after its membership in the European Union. It served as initiatives and internal British motives that led to the decision of the referendum to stay or exit. The study was centred on several assumptions that focused mainly on the imperial spirit, sovereignty, identity and the priority of national interests that emanated directly from the internal British environment.
It was supported by objective factors such as immigration and refugee issues and their security and economic ties, As prelude and motivations that eventually matured in the exit of Britain from the membership of the Union. In order for the study to investigate the problem and prove its hypothesis, it adopted the descriptive approach to track the initiatives the nation-state approach and the school of political realism to analyze the external state behaviour emanating from the internal environment of British decision-makers towards the European Union.
On the other hand, the study relied on the vision of a liberal institutional approach and interdependence to analyze European responses to British demands, which enabled the study to conclude that the variables of nationalism, identity and independence were the incubator of the uncertainty and mistrust that accompanied the British relationship with the European Union, In order to react to the variables of immigration, migrant flows and threats to security and economic security, British populists, from all walks of the political spectrum, invested them in favour of achieving the referendum result, which has been fuelled by a wide range of motives inherent in the British domestic environment.
