520 |a Patients with ESRD require lifetime commitment to their renal replacement therapy (RRT) and the medical treatment for their underlying disease for survival, and are faced with many challenges related to adherence to their treatment, the reported non-adherence rates in this population have been wide.. Objective: The study was conducted to examine patient’s knowledge, illness perceptions and its impact on treatment adherence in patients on maintenance HD, and to determine barriers to adherence. Method: Data of 105 patients was collected by interviewing the randomly selected ESRD patients in dialysis center during period of study by investigator using questionnaire, it was including patients information, demographic characteristics, information about their knowledge about renal failure disease status, drug usage attitude mainly calcium ,and effect of their knowledge on calcium supplement adherence. Result: Patient’s knowledge about their disease state and importance of calcium supplement in patients on maintenance HD significantly affect adherence to it; demographic factors are not associated with patients’ adherence. Conclusion: Psychosocial factors appear to be the most promising predictors of non-adherence. Strategies to enhance adherence should be rigorously pursued to improve clinical outcomes. Better patient- doctor relationship to provide detailed realistic information and activating clinical pharmacist role in patient care should be considered.
