المستخلص: Windmill is one of the most important types of wind engines nowadays, for being renewable and environmentally clean sources of energy. We found that there is a large number of the European writers who oppose the idea of the emergence of the windmills in the East; claiming that most of the east countries today do not use them. But this was not enough justification to disregard their efforts and achievements. Therefore, this research aims to investigate the history of windmills since ancient times, and to know the role of Arabs and Muslims in its constructing and use, whether in East or the Arab Maghreb with some accuracy and analysis.
